Design + Construction Management
Design
This cottage takes advantage of a grandfathered setback to fully engage with the lake from the buildings interiors while the stepped design and natural materials allow it to retreat into it’s setting. The Douglas Fir structure provides a warm feel to this contemporary design. Large lift and slide doors allow the front facade to open up almost completely to the Lake.

This cottage was built on the foundations of a 1960’s Panabode cottage. ICF’s were used in addition to accommodate an increase in the footprint. The Panabode was taken down carefully and every piece numbered for possible erection later on a different site. The existing granite fireplace was saved and will be reused in the new dwelling. The southern orientation of the building allowed optimal use of passive solar gains while the roof overhangs were sized to minimze summer gains. A 2 story vertical light well brings daylighting into the middle of the home on both floors while also serving as a stack for passive ventilation.
A green roof system provides the upper bedrooms with an enhanced foreground to the beautiful lake vistas beyond. Heat is produced through a Lake Loop geothermal system and delivered through radiant floors.
