a Ravine view
The clients came to us with a spectacular property in Rosedale featuring an existing detached home, desperately in need of an update. As it was, the 2-storey house was not meeting the needs of their growing family. The proposed addition and renovation would expand the living area of the house on 3 levels and take advantage of the amazing views of the ravine.
The new central open-riser staircase doubled as a light well, bringing natural daylighting into the core of the elongated floor plate. Improved connections to outdoor living spaces extended the home into the backyard during the warmer months. Deep overhangs combined with the site’s deciduous trees protect against summer heat gain while allowing the lower winter rays to enter through the large windows and comfortably warm the spaces naturally.
The existing structure underwent a major renovation to improve the spacial layout and building envelope. New mechanical systems, insulation, windows and membranes dramatically improved the efficiency and performance of this post-war brick and block structure.
