Lake of the Woods Bunkie

DESIGN

This stunning, windswept lot on the Lake of the Woods was home to a prospector tent until the owners approached Altius to design a multi-season bunkie for their growing family, so that they could escape to the island no matter the conditions.

The bunkie is perched on the first flat area up the slope from the Lake, with convenient access to the water, but set back into the woods for privacy. The modest one bedroom floor plan is offset by a dramatic double height view of the Lake below and islands in the distance. The simple structure is heated by a wood burning fireplace on cool nights, and cooled by ceiling fans and operable windows on warmer days. Dark wood siding allows the bunkie to visibly recede into the woods, while on the interior, fir roof decking and rafters are left exposed to bring the natural warmth inside.
