Lake Simcoe

Design

This was a unique opportunity for us to work with a client who spent many years as a formally trained and practicing architect. The collaboration stemmed from his desire to engage Altius and our expertise in BIM (Building Information Modelling) and cottage design. The design consolidates and replaces two existing cottages under one roof. In doing so, the design sought to reconcile the buildings existense in the immense landscape of the southern shore of Lake Simcoe, and the sites endless horizon, with long horizontal lines, while at the same time breaking the massing down into smaller human-scale elements. The larger communal spaces were placed along the lakeside areas of the ground floor. The second floor was designed to function when desired as a separate suite. Numerous functional possibilities were united under a consistent design aesthetic.
