“Devil in the Details”

I’m sitting on an old and dirty chair in the middle of our construction site. The walls are primed, the hardwood is laid and the trim is partly installed. The painters will be returning in a few weeks, which means we need to make a final decision on the room colours. I originally came to the house this afternoon to compare paint chips with the tile that’s been installed, but all I can focus on is the colour of grout we selected for the bathroom. I wish it was darker. In the grand scheme of things, grout colour is pretty trivial – especially if it’s only a few shades lighter than you wish it was – but collectively, I’m quite certain my wife and I have spent hundreds of hours worrying about the little details. It’s these things that bring your project a little closer to perfection.

Granted, if perfection is defined as a state of being without a flaw or defect, than that goal is arguably unattainable. Of course, that hasn’t stopped us from trying…
