Gladstone Hotel Exhibition Goes Out In Flames

2012-02-02

The last night of the Gladstone Hotel’s Come Up To My Room Exhibition was celebrated with the annual Love Design Party as a part of the Toronto Design Week Offsite Festival (TO DO). The evenings festivities began in the exhibition upstairs where the speakers that filled the packed exhibition with sound caught fire. No harm was done and the smoking speaker was safely extinguished.

The week long event which takes over the first three floors of the hotel always provides a unique display experience for Toronto’s alternative arts scene. The second floor exhibition curated by Deborah Wang and Noa Bronstein provides the opportunity for young designers to design their own space with complete freedom. The diverse design of rooms was brought together through the historic bones of the hotel’s architecture and hallway installations that stitched the eclectic mix of spaces together. The presence of young designers from the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture was clearly evident this year. It was great to see a strong turn out from Toronto’s design community in the Hotel’s mulit-room exhibition.
